Today has been quiet. I spent a lot of time on writing stuff and I chopped up four punnets of mushrooms that had been on an excellent offer for the freezer.
I haven't driven since early January. I hurt my shoulder, and then, when it was feeling a little better, I found the thought of it overwhelming. However, DH needs salad for tomorrow and I'm running a little low on the flavoured water that he likes, so I decided to go to Tesco. As I knew that I wouldn't be confident driving, I waited until it was late and the roads should be quiet before setting off.
I found it tough, I'll be honest. I was out of practice and feeling nervous, but I did it! I drove safely there, though it took me a few minutes to get up to speed. There was a reason that I didn't go out when it was busy. I didn't want to be a hazard. I nearly forgot to take a pic to prove that I'd been out, but I remembered on my way out, and I took a pic of houseplants that looked amazing and that I had no intention of buying.
I intend to go out again tomorrow, and again go out late. There is an Aldi which is around ten miles away from us. They have the habit of putting out Thursday's special buys late on Wednesday. I have my eye on the bedding, as mine is wearing out and I kind of like the blue stripes that are advertised on the website. It won't be a great hardship if I can't get any, as there are ruffles and I'm never 100% behind ruffles, but it's also a great reason to get me moving out and about.
I hope that I'll have something interesting to post tomorrow.
Hugs and good health to all.

So glad you managed to get back behind the wheel again. It can be nerve wracking, but if I remember correctly, you found it that way when you first started driving Bear around. The more you do it, the easier it will become. You became such a confident driver and spurred me on to do better! Even if it's just driving somewhere and parking in a car park looking out onto a park or something I'm sure it will bring you joy.
ReplyDeleteCompletely different topic, but how do mushrooms freeze? Do you do something special to them? Are they rubbery when you use them later?
I just peel and chop the mushrooms and bung in the freezer. I usually do a big batch when there's a good offer, then take out as much as I want from the bag as I need at the time. They can get a little soft and the skins get leathery, so they're no good for a crisp stir fry, but I bung them in casseroles, soups and add them to jar sauces with onions, and they do fine for me. Maybe you could do a tiny test batch.
DeleteI baled out of driving last spring... I found it overwhelming especially s I was very out of practice and we'd just bought an automatic for the first time. Now I would definitely be unsafe on the roads as my fluctuating oxygen levels affects the way respond... not only slow, but sometimes, if my levels drop, I can become easily confused, ratty and shoert-tempered and make bad decisions!
ReplyDeleteSo kudos to you for getting behind the wheel again.
My biggest concern is making sure that I continue to be safe on the road. I hope that I can follow your example and make a measured and considered decision.
DeleteIsn't it horrible how quickly we can lose the confidence to drive. I haven't driven in nearly 23 years and sometimes I could kick myself for giving up. It looks far too scary and dangerous these days. There are so many idiots on the road
ReplyDeleteSo many people have said it's worse since Covid, and there are so many cars full stop. When I think to when I was a kid, and there were plenty of households without a car, to now when most households have a car or access to one, no wonder the roads are tricky.
DeleteRegaining driving confidence takes time, and you're taking a sensible route to it.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWell done with the driving. I hope you are able to drive again, tomorrow, too. Those houseplants look lovely. And they remind me that I should water my houseplants! :D
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, I need to water my survivor!
