Groceries are Here

All the groceries are here now. We've got an abundance of stuffing, lots of fruit and nuts and a few sweeties. Nobody really eats the biscuits, nobody really enjoys the mince pies or fruit cake - we don't mind them but it's not a big deal. We have Christmas pudding ready to go, of course, and if we suddenly feel a craving for anything we can nip out after Boxing Day.

I have completely failed to take pics.

There was still a huge delivery. There was alcohol (for me), lots of meat, vast amounts of gluten free stuffing and all sorts of bits and bobs, like a bottle of fancy grape juice for Christmas dinner. I got all the good things and still only paid out about £30 as I used all my Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

I haven't done much else today, but I'm feeling pretty good and looking forward to tomorrow. Bear seems content, which is the big thing, and DH is relaxing.

Hugs and good health to all.

  1. Wow good that you were able to use the Tesco vouchers! We are done shopping. What we don't have, we won't have. I have alcohol and Chocolate. I did treat myself to some Mince Pies (quite expensive here as imported) and fruit cake (also imported as American Fruitcake is horrible - more cherries and dried fruit than cake).

    1. Getting the good stuff makes all the difference. I'd rather go without than have the second rate stuff at Christmas. Wishing you an amazing holiday.

  3. Our son is gluten intolerant, so is limited in what he can eat.
Fortunately we have a GF specialist baker in the next village. She's Coeliac, and over time has taught herself to make wonderful GF foods.
Therefore, we put in a fairly large order with her, so our son can have pork pies, sausage rolls, mince pies, bread rolls, biscuits, Christmas cake and Christmas pudding, all GF, and all tasting a lot better than any of the commercial makes.
Can I ask why you have GF stuffing, and yet don't mention that your mince pies, biscuits, fruit cake or Christmas pudding are GF?
Our shopping is all done, cards have been written and delivered, presents are wrapped, stuffing meatloaf will be made this afternoon, and our daughter in law is doing lunch tomorrow, so apart from the stuffing meatloaf (sausage meat, chestnuts, cranberries, apricots, egg, GF stuffing mix, garlic, onion, and a glug of Cognac), I'm having a very easy time of it this year, for the first time in 38 years!!!
Wishing the three of you a very Happy Christmas, and all the best for 2024! X

    1. I really phrased it wrong. I'm not too bothered about the biscuits, so I would get the 'normal' ones for bear and DH. I adore stuffing so that absolutely has to be gluten free. We got the gluten free Christmas pudding, but I think that I would do that anyway. Sometimes the gluten free stuff is much better. I also now have a stash of Tesco gluten free mini muffins which are glorious, even for those that can have gluten.
We long ago decided that we would prefer to spend time chilling with each other than cooking, so get most of it ready made. That's the trade off we do, with fancier cooking when time together isn't possible except at the meal.
Wishing you all good things for a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

  4. It’s so easy to overshop - as I said on my page, I bought too much of some stuff and forgot other things🙄

Have a lovely time with your husband and bear - that’s the really important part of Christmas; together with loved ones
    Love Mary xx

  6. We aren't too bothered with mince pies Christmas cake or pudding. Didn't buy any sweets or chocolates this year but must admit to missing the usual Lindor. Isn't it nice to stock up on goodies that haven't cost the earth.

    1. Bargain goodies taste better! We still have plenty, but I don't think that there's much that will be left over in the New Year.
