Bear has a Party

It wasn't exactly a party.  A couple of pals came round to hang out and have pizza.  I loaded up a small table with drinks and treats and settled in a corner with my headphones on.  I could see the computer screen but I couldn't hear the utter rubbish they were talking.

They started off with a nerf gun battle.  That's toy guns shooting foam dart type things.  The battle raged hot up and down the stairs and in and out of various rooms.  There was also some intricate plot going on as well but I couldn't tell you what it was.  At the end one of his pals offered to clear the nerf darts out of the prison, or the bath, as it is also known.

Then they had a very complicated round robin computer game challenge that seemed to involve a lot of good natured but loud discussion.  I definitely tuned that one out.  It may have been quite cold outside, but needs must.  The lads didn't seem to notice.  Then they went out to play football - another one of the cheapo last minute gifts for bear which was one of those bouncy balls that light up when it's hit or bounces.  They came in when they got chased by a drunk.

As far as I can tell it was a generic drunk not actually attached to anyone local but who insisted on shaking bear's hand and then asking one of his pals if he wanted a fight.  The lads came in at my insistence and bear washed his hand.  The computer game was restarted and then there was another nerf gun battle before the pizza arrived.

The lads ate so much that they told me that they couldn't possibly move.  It was definitely not worth cutting the birthday cake.  They were so stuffed that they went outside for another round of football, this time without the drunk.  Finally they were all collected and I collapsed.

As far as I can tell everyone had a great time, no-one was hurt, the drunk was seen as entertainment and they would all come again.  I'm taking it as a success.

  1. I'm so glad they had a really good time! Should make for a quiet night as Bear should sleep really soundly!

  2. Happy Birthday Bear-let! Sounds as if the party was a hit. I can imagine the chaos of fun that ensued. I remember those parties well. And everyone survived which is always a good sign. ;) Happy New Year!

    1. I can't remember how often I've had to dig out the plasters, mop up cuts and scrapes or pack frozen peas around someone's limb. This time was relatively drama free, so I'm definitely taking it for a win. It was definitely not a place for those who need order lol! LM x

  3. Sounds like it to me. I think you can say that was a success. My two sons who are only a year apart used to have "parties" pretty much along the same lines, good harmless fun for lads (and lassies), we then progressed to go to "things" like films, bowling, swimming then the teens really kick in and we had mini rave type parties but definitely no alcohol or other substances, quite hard to manage but a lot has to come down to trust I think. My sons are both men now and honestly are brilliant and mostly always have been. I am sure Bear will be the same, he sounds an amazing young man. A happy and healthy 2018 to you and yours. Regards Sue H.

    1. Wishing you all the best to you and yours in 2018. I take tips from people commenting on here.

We've done soft play parties, science and museum parties and a trip to the cinema but now bear and his pals seem to be happy just hanging out and talking utter rubbish. They were all good lads, like yours, and I think that makes a difference. They seemed happy enough, so probably the same again next year! LM x

  4. Sounds like a good party had by all - quite different to our girly parties of old that my daughters had in the 80/90's but very interesting and it seems they were able to amuse themselves whereas with the girls I had to find suitable games to amuse them and the 'party bag' over the years suddenly became the most important bit (probably the American influence creeping in then) - get it wrong and no-one ever came again - suited me though LOL!

    1. Lol! With lads I keep a stock of the good food and they hang out and talk rubbish. It's like the old men in Last of the Summer Wine. They amuse themselves. Not only did I forget to give out the incredibly inexpensive party bags that I stashed, but I forgot the cake as well! Not that they had room. Memo to self - next year, save money and skip the cake! lol LM x
