Change in the Air

Bear is off and away. He left yesterday and I think that he'll be fine. DH checked his room and he said that it was nice with plenty of storage and it's nice and quiet. I'm confident that bear will do well.

I forgot to give him the shot glass to take with him.

It measures shots but also tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres and fluid ounces. I picked it up mainly because I thought it would be useful for measurements if he cooks. I don't know if bear will do many shots while he's away. I suspect he may but not many, as it's not really his style (though who knows). However his track record is being the responsible one in the friend group and I guess it would be helpful to know what a shot of liquor is supposed to look like. The standard measure is a lot less than it looks like on TV.

Today is the first day of a new chapter in my life. I spent a lot of it rummaging around some writing stuff and getting some washing done. I think Monday is when I'll sit down and try and plan out how to make things work. It's felt a little odd.

At least the plumber is coming tomorrow. I'm desperate for the leak to be fixed. It's staining the front of the house! I'll be so glad when it's sorted out and I hope that the plumber (who is lovely) can work something out.

Hugs and good health to all.

  1. It will take a bit of getting used to. I always felt a little lost when another of them got their wings. I'm sure it will settle down after a time. I hope Bear enjoys the new adventure he's on!

    1. It will be strange as he'll be back, then away, then back, then away before he finally leaves. As far as I can tell, bear is having the time of his life.

  2. I, too, am sure that bear will be fine. You can give him the shot glass on his next visit home. Hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy this new phase in your life. You'll be fine, too, I'm sure. :)

  3. It's a weird feeling when there aren't any more 'children' at home!

    1. Yes! It feels very odd, like there's a gap somewhere.

  4. All four of mine had walked the path that Bear walks now - a great experience for him , but harder for those left behind where life continues but is so much quieter ( and the fridge so much fuller )
He will be home again for a visit before you know it

    1. The fridge is fuller and the food shopping is suddenly a great deal easier! Thank you.

  5. I have two sons, both went away to uni two years apart. It felt like I had lost an arm or something. The home feels sort of hollow. All I can say is once they are settled in and happy it all settles down. I think you seem a bit like me as long as they are happy we are too. Both my sons were always the responsible ones in their group of friends and it seemed to stand them in good stead plus they both liked learning and study which your son seems to like too. They weren't saints and still enjoyed a good time with their friends. I am sure your son will do wonderfully. Regards Sue H

    1. Thank you. Hollow is a really good way to describe it. I've told him that if DH and I have done things right, he won't even remember us from one day to the next as he will be so immersed in his new life and I hope that he has a blast.
I also hope that there are one or two adventures that he absolutely won't share with me, and that he keeps enough sense to stay safe. Thank you, that's so reassuring.

    1. Thank you. I hope we got it right with bear, though sometimes I think he turned out so well despite us!

  7. And so begins a new chapter for you all. Has he gone far or is it close enough to pop home if he gets homesick

    1. Bear has strict instructions to call us any time that he feels the need, and he knows that no matter what we will fetch him. He's only around a couple of hours away by car, and on good routes for trains and coaches, so he can get back really easily.
Though I doubt that he'll be too homesick. I suspect that he'll be keeping too busy.
