There are also some satsumas in the picture, but they were delivered yesterday and don't count.
We threw away some cheese because it had gone way past its best - it was the stuff that DH and bear had requested but hadn't really bothered with and it was that 'cheese with cranberries' stuff that would never keep. I think that there are a few sprouts in the freezer and that's about it. I'm feeling quite good about that.
I'm trying to run down my stores at the moment and being quite particular about what I'm keeping in. We're low on baked beans, but we don't eat so many anyway these days, and I could probably add a tin of sweetcorn to the next order, but I am still concerned about using up what's in.
Talking about using stuff up, remember the potato soup that I made that I said was awful? Well I cooked up the rest of the bacon for a sandwich and it was absolutely foul! So I think I may try something similar again, but with better bacon!
Hugs and good health to all.
Ooh, now I want Turkish delight! My maternal grandmother used to make it at Christmas. Well, now we know why the potato soup tasted the way it did and it wasn't anything that you did or didn't do. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's very reassuring about the soup.
DeleteI'm not fond of Turkish Delight, but the men love it and I make sure I get some in for them.
I thinke we all buy "too much" for Christmas - even when we think we are cutting back. Because I live in a small bungalow with limited storage I have to keep all the extras in any place I can but then totally forget about them. It's always a surprise when I come across one of the Christmas treats in July when I go into a little used cupboard or drawer. Luckily it has always been long-life stuff such as chocolate biscuits etc. (so far). I think it definitely proves that I didn't need to buy them as we didn't miss them over the festive season.
ReplyDeleteThat happens here with presents. I start buying early, and when bear was little I had dozens of small bits hidden around the place. I'd always find something I'd forgotten around about February as a pleasant top up. This year, DH got a book a fortnight after Christmas as I'd hidden it a little too well!
DeleteDoesn't everyone buy too much for Christmas? Finishing the left-overs is one of the joys of the season - and makes January bearable.😀
ReplyDeleteI always love finishing up the extra pickles in January. As you say, it brightens up the grey month.
Deleteall the odds and ends of christmas chocolate went into a mixed rocky road type concoction , it was far nicer than the god awful quality street and obscure cheapys i threw in with some soggy biscuits
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing - I may try it next year, men permitting!
DeleteI have to admit that I still have some Christmas goodies left. I try to stretch them out until Easter lol.
ReplyDeleteI refuel well before Easter - I admire your pacing!
